You and your date are beginning a relationship and are just a few dates old. The obvious question that you would be pondering upon would be what is the next step in the relationship? However, more important that this is the question that you should ask yourself — is your date interested enough in you to take things forward?

The best option at this time is not to ask you date outright whether s/he is serious about you. It might be inappropriate since you both have not really been together.

However there are some easy to recognize tell-tale signs that will give you an indication of how exactly s/he feels about you.

Physical contact
Be it a man or a woman, physical contact is one of the most obvious signs that give away one’s feelings for another. We love to show our affection by holding hands or putting our arm around the waist of the person we care about. If he is keeping a distance constantly or has his hands folded over his chest and avoids eye contact, then that’s your sign. If a woman likes you, she will lean into you while talking or cuddle next to you. If this isn’t happening, you obviously know that she’s not interested.

Avoiding phone calls and texting
This is one big give-away. You must believe that there is absolutely no excuse for not keeping in contact via phone. So if you are wondering why your date hasn’t called you back, it maybe your indicator that s/he is not that into you. While men may not be fond of phone conversations, if he likes you, he will call you back, sometimes without any reason, just to say a ‘Hi’. A woman usually finds innumerable reasons to call and even though you both probably know that the reason for the call is extremely trivial, you both will end up having unending conversations. But this will not be the scene if she is not into you.

Family and friends
Are they willingly introduce you to their family and friends. If your date avoids this then it is a clear sign that they are not considering you as a long-term partner.

Does s/he criticise you too often?
One of the most apparent signs that the opposite person is not into you is if s/he criticizes you at every given opportunity. The reasons may be small, like the way you dress or the way you have worn your make-up or your choice of books or movies. Something trivial makes him/ her go totally against you is a sign.

Being vague
Does your date call you up often to postpone your dates or change the venue for some vague reason? If you find that your date keeps changing plans, it is definitely a sign of disinterest and a lack of adhering to commitments. S/he doesn’t take you seriously enough and is not really bothered.
